Library usage and its impact on student grades

So there’s a fantastic JISC funded project looking specifically at library usage and its correlation to degree outcomes between a number leading UK universities called the Library Impact Data Project

“students who eventually get the highest grades borrow more in their first year of study than those who eventually get lower grades.”

Does sounds like a bit of a no brainer, but its nice to see it in numbers and facts as opposed to conjecture and anecdote, and not just in Huddersfield but across the country.

Essentially one of Lemontree’s goals is to increase library usage meaningfully, in a way that users would find enjoyable.

One of the things that we’re keen on assessing is the impact that Lemontree will have on the social learning experiences that students will have at our partner institution Huddersfield.  How will library users share their activity and recommend things to other users, will this reciprocity have a direct measurable effect on the overall learning experience?

We’re involved in on another project where much of the survey data is qualitative and interview based, with a much smaller sample of students, so it’ll be nice to combine both approaches in short and long form to see whether using Lemontree does indeed have an impact on student achievement!
